mulch and termites - Knowledgebase Question

a neighbor has a pile of mulch she is giving me that has been sitting on the ground for 2 years. this is bark. Is there a danger termites could be in the pile? Is it safe to put in beds around the house?

To ensure the mulch is termite free, just spread it out. Termites will scurry off when exposed to sunlight. You can use the mulch in your beds near your house as long as you periodically rake it to deter insect pests.
