The Q&A Archives: How to rid of water snake?

Question: I have a koi pond and a black and yellow water snake that I think is eating the fish. How do I get rid of the snake and not kill the fish?

Answer: What you describe sounds like a common garter snake and they live near water and feed on lots of things, including fish. Aside from catching and relocating the snake, there's not much you can do except change the habitat near you pond. Snakes hid in rocks, tall grass, most anywhere they can curl up and be safe. Wish I had something more to share with you.
