The Q&A Archives: Oak Tree Seedlings

Question: How can I effectively remove the Oak tree seedlings from coming up in my lawn and in the area where we would like to put a patio? Kate

Answer: I'm afraid pulling them up, roots and all, is the most effective way of getting rid of them. You may be able to paint each one with Round Up, but you'd still have to pull them out of the lawn so why not forego the chemicals and just pull them up. You will have fewer trees sprouting up if you rake up the acorns as they fall. You might even consider renting a vacuum for the purpose. There are harvesting vacuums that run like lawn mowers and suck up all the fallen acorns in one fell swoop.
