| How do I rid my lawn of wild garlic. See I used a lawn service last year and ever since I have seen a number of never before seen weeds. The worst is the wild garlic. Help! |
| It is possible the lawn service introduced the weeds. Perhaps they will help you eliminate them. Killing wild garlic isn't easy, but if you are persistent, you'll eventually rid your landscape of this weed. It is a year long process. Kill wild garlic plants throughout fall, winter and early spring before plants can generate the next generation of bulbs (in March). Pull or cut down any that emerge in the summer. Hoeing throughout winter or early spring will prevent development of new underground bulbs. If hoeing is not an option, 2,4-D applied before plants are 8 inches tall also provides effective control. Use caution when applying 2,4-D; it is a broadleaf weed killer which can also kill ornamental plants. Make sure all herbicides are labeled for the site at which they are being applied. Wild garlic bulbs can persist dormant in soil for 6 years and nothing sprayed above ground can kill dormant bulbs beneath the soil surface. Complete control of wild garlic will take several years but persistent management will eventually control them. Good luck with your project! |
