I just planted 3 raspberry canes in a large container. I would like to plant a few vegetables with my kids, ages 2 and 4. Can I plant carrots, lettuce and peas with the raspberries? Would it harm the raspberries to have the peas climb them? I'm in the Seattle area.

The vegetables won't bother the raspberries and vice versa. Some fun things for children to plant are lettuces, radishes and peas. They mature quickly. If you have room, why not plant some dwarf sunflower seeds, as well? The Mexican varieties are colorful and kids seem to love seeing them grow. Best wishes with your new garden!
