Ajuga, or carpet bugle makes a nice groundcover and can take mowing without problem; Fragaria or ornamental strawberry such as Pink Panda will do the same. Both are spreading plants and can be planted 4-6 inches apart for quick coverage or 8-10 inches apart and they will fill in within 2 years. You should be able to find them in flats at your local nursery and you can generally get 18 to 24 plants from a flat. Two or three flats will cover the area, depending upon how far apart you put the plants.
