The Q&A Archives: ornamental strawberry such as Pink Panda

Question: What is the difference with an ornamental strawberry such as Pink Panda and a regular strawberry plant if both produce fruit???? Do they both make good ground cover....i know some send runners out and some don't! Thanks katie

Answer: Pink Panda produces pulpy fruit and while it is edible, it doesn't taste very good! The plants are smaller than regular strawberry plants and their runners are shorter, making them more of a groundcover than regular strawberries. They don't mind being mowed down, either. Regualar strawberry plants are more demanding in their cultural needs and are more prone to diseases than Pink Panda. While they do produce edible fruits, they are taller, more delcate plants than Pink Panda. The choice is yours!
