How do I get rid of star of bethlehem bulbs which are taking over my back yard? |
Wish I had a magic potion for you. The Star of Bethlehem was once planted as an ornamental without anyone realizing its invasive potential. There are no effective controls for this bulbous plant, but some suggest that preemergence herbicide applications made very late in fall or early spring will work. Some homeowners have success digging the plants out by hand. If you choose to use a pre-emergent herbicide (Casoron in beds with woody ornamentals; Preen in beds with herbaceous ornamentals), be sure to read and follow label directions so you won't compromise the health of your desireable plants. Best wishes with your garden! |
