| You don't really need to rototil, nor do you need weed barrier. It will help to simply break up the soil with a shovel prior to placing topsoil in the bed. Breaking it up a bit will reduce any barrier that might occur between the native soil and the topsoil. Raised beds should be about 18 inches deep - that amount of top soil over the existing grass will kill the grass without the concern of it growing up through the top soil. Grasses need sunlight and 18 inches of topsoil will certainly eliminate the possibility of sunlight reaching the turf! Good luck with your new raised bed! |
