I live in a frequently windy coastal area (just moved here) I have planted fruit trees and berries. My back yard has a fence that offers a little protection but most of the yard is exposed. I did plant a standard orange tree as well as a standard olive and avocado but they are still young and don't offer much protection. The rest of the trees are semi-dwarf. wine barrels for vegetables

It sounds as though you are doing everything right. As your trees grow they will offer more wind protection and the flowers they produce will be protected by their leaves so you should still get fruit. Hope you enjoy your yard!
