| I HAD A GREENHOUSE WINDOW INSTALLED LAST YEAR AND I AM TRYING TO GROW FLOWER SEEDLINGS FOR THE FIRST TIME BUT THEY ARE VERY SPINDLY. THEY ARE IN EGG CARTONS RIGHT NOW. SHOULD I TRANSPLANT THEM INTO LARGER CONTAINERS? ANY OTHER THOUGHTS? THANK YOU! |
| I would move the seedlings to another place until they are up and growing. Although greenhouse windows are great for houseplants, they aren't the best places to start seeds. Spindly seedlings are usually caused by lack of light. If you are growing them in a sunny window, a simple spell of cloudy weather can cause the problem. If you can install supplemental lighting (such as a fluorescent shop light) and keep the light source only 2 inches from the tops of your plants, you will see a huge difference in their growth. I'd move the tray of seedlings to another place and set them under shop lights, moving the light source up as the seedlings grow. Once they have developed into hardy plants you can repot and set them in your greenhouse window. Good luck with your seedlings! |
