what special soil additives are required. My yard has a lot of clay. Will this negate my chances at success? |
It is not a good idea to amend a planting hole - roots will grow around and around in the amended soil rather than venturing out into the native soil. However, you can amend an entire planting bed and then plant your roses. Just spread 4-5 inches of organic matter (compost, aged manure, etc.) over the top of the bed and dig it in to a depth of 8-10 inches. Then dig holes and plant your roses. Roses adapt to growing in clay soils so that should not be a concern. Enjoy your roses! |
