I planted some nice Home Depot flower bulbs prior to the winter freeze. About 2 weeks ago they started sprouting above ground nicely. Today they are gone and appear to have been eaten by an animal. There are deer in the area. Is it birds or is it really deer? How can I prevent this from happening? I am also concerned that the same will happen to my vegetable garden.

It could be deer or it could be hungry bunnies. Deer and bunnies rarely eat daffodils but tulips and other delicacies are irresistable to them. You can try applying a deterrent such as Deer Away to your garden area, or you may need to make a hoop out of chicken wire to protect the newly emerging foliage. Hope this helps!
