The Q&A Archives: Transplanting an Herb Garden

Question: We are going to enlarge a deck this spring. we will need to move a herb garden to do this. When is the best time to tranplant? We have chives, sage, oregano, and rosemary. Can I move the root ball before new growth appears or should I wait for the newgrowth? Bonnie Thistle Windham, ME

Answer: The best time to transplant is in early spring before growth begins. Include as much soil around the root ball as you can manage!
