Saving old plants - Knowledgebase Question

We have recently moved into a home with established planting of climbing roses and hydranga. The property had been negected the rose bush, hydranga were cut back almost to the ground. The service we used cut the rose and hydranga almost to the ground. How can we encorage new growth?

Both will recover later this spring. You can feed them with a general purpose 10-10-10 to encourage new growth but both hydrangeas and roses are vigorous growers, especially when the weather is warm.
