Bentgrass, the turf grass commonly used for golf greens, can certainly spoil the look of a lawn. It thrives under cool conditions, high moisture and low mowing. The only way to get rid of what is already there is to dig it out and reseed the patches. There are no herbicides specific to individual grasses, so any you apply will kill all the grass to which it is applied. To prevent its spread, mow your lawn higher and reduce your watering. Good luck with your project.
