| I have 3 new creeping phlox plants that are still a bright green color but are kinda crispy to the touch now, like they dried out. Happened after we had a really windy day a couple days back. They've gotten plenty of water and sunlight. Could the wind have damaged them? I also have tickseed and dianthus plants that got windblown as well. Stems are now all bend over. Will they spring back up? |
| It could be that the leaves of the plants lost enough moisture during the windy weather that they simply dried on the plant, much like if you had cut the leaves and pressed them between the pages of a book. They will eventually lose their color, but I think they are probably dead. You can cut them off the plant or you can leave them on and they will fall off all on their own. But the roots of your plants are probably healthy enough to produce new foliage so I don't think the plants died - they were just set back a little in their growth. The plants that were blown over may right their stems and they may look windblown until they grow new flowering stems. Either way, you will eventually be able to prune away the damaged plant parts later this season when your plants put on new growth. Don't give up on them just yet! |
