Last winter we had a small patch on the side of the house that was eaten by voles under the snow. Now, there is a large area of the front yard that was eaten. Last year we watered and tried to encourage the grass to fill in. since it was on the side of the driveway it was not that noticable from the front. This year it is right in the front yard! Help - what should we do?

I wish there were an easy solution, but trapping is about the only thing a homeower can do. There are toxic fumigants and baits but they are only available to certified pesticide applicators. You can set regular mouse traps baited with peanut butter or bacon to attract the critters. Reset the traps as often as necessary to eliminate the pesky critters.
