Answer: We all get impatient waiting on that messy foliage to dry up enough to cut down. Unfortunately, there isn't a thing you can do short of interplanting with some annuals to hide the mess. As you know, if you cut it down prematurely or interfere with it by braiding or tying it down, you compromise the bulbs' health. It is safe to cut it down after 6 wks. or total browning, whichever comes first.
