The Q&A Archives: prepping soil for planting

Question: How do I prep a 15x8' (mostly, clay soil) area for planting shrubs and flowers? What tools and soil do I need?

Answer: All you will need is a shovel and a rake - and some compost or aged manure. Spread 4-5 inches of the organic matter over the top of the soil and dig it in to a depth of 8-10 inches. If the area is too large to hand dig, you can rent a rototiller to incorporate the organic matter. Rake the area level and plant. Enjoy!
