Answer: There are a number of St. Augustine hybrids and some grow better in some parts of the country than in others. I think the different types of grasses are simply regional hybrids. The wider blade is an older variety of St. Augustine - one that grows best in Houston. St. Augustine greens up according to air and soil temperatures. There's nothing you can do to make them green up faster in the spring. Once they come out of dormancy they will green up.
