I checked with the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality website and found some fairly stringent rules for the handling of wood debris. It is not likely that the wood chips would be infested with any out of the ordinary pests or diseases. The wood chips are stockpiled and the piles are turned periodically. The heat from natural decomposition gets the chips pretty hot during the process which will kill any insects and insect eggs that might be present.
