| I am waited for my Bermuda grass to start coming back for the spring and summer. I water about 3 times a week for about 6minutes and have put some fertilizer on it from time to time. My question is I never can get a full green yard. Last summer, I had some burn or dead spots to my grass and when I cut (every two weeks) there would be more. | Bermuda should green up as soon as the weather warms up. We've had a few days of 80 plus but more days below 70 so far this spring. If you are watering regularly and have already fertilized, there's not much else you can do to encourage green up. I think if you adjust your watering, your turf will grow much thicker. Watering every other day for only 6 minutes will supply very little water to the roots of your bermuda. Instead, try watering deeply 2-3 times a week during the hottest months of the summer, leaving the system on for 15 to 20 minutes at a time. Your goal is to soak the lawn so the water penetrates down 8-10 inches into the soil. This will encourage deep rooting and less browning/burning this summer. To check how deeply the water is soaking in, dig down into the soil. You may be surprised at how shallow your current watering regime is going. Shallow water equals shallow roots and grass that is more susceptible to summertime damage. Best wishes with your lawn! |
