I am going to plant some flowers in three separate areas in front of my house. The problem is that I have not lived in this house for very long and I am not sure if I should use full sun or shade plants. The flowers will be used for church floral arrangements, so cutting is important. Do you have any tips on how to determine the best light requirements. I was considering planting wild flowers, bad idea? |
If the beds are on the South or West side, consider them to be full sunshine. If they're on the East or North side, shade loving flowers will grow best there. Wildflowers are somewhat weedy and prefer a sunny exposure. Many are fine for cutting. Here are some suggestions for sunny beds: Amaryllis belladonna, Desert Marigold, Coreopsis, Gaillardia, Iris, Liatris (Gayfeather), Linum, Zinnia, Watsonia, Verbena, and Poppy. Shady beds could include: Monk's Hood, Astilbe, Campanula, Maiden's Wreath, Kaffir Lily, Corydalis, Bleeding Heart, Foxglove, Lysimachia and Cineraria. |
