We decided to plant seeds this year instead of plants. All was going as planned and we were tickled to see the seeds come up and thrive, But then they took a total turn around and now the stems are turning white and they are all starting to die. what did we do wrong? This is our first time seeding and would love to hear this is fixable! |
Uh oh! It sounds like your seedlings have developed a fungal disease called damping off. It is caused by overly wet soils and poor air circulation and it is a common disease. Your seedlings will not recover from this problem so you will want to try to avoid it with your next batch of seeds. Start with fresh seed starting mix and plant new seeds. Water enough to keep the soil moist but not soggy wet. Try to water from the bottom so as not to get the seedlings wet. You can also set a small fan near the seedlings to increase air circulation. Hope you have better success with your next batch of seeds. |
