The Q&A Archives: Do Eggplant Require Cross-Pollination?

Question: I am a small-space gardener and would like to try eggplant this year. Will a single eggplant produce fruit or do I need to plant two? Leah McGuire Phoenix, AZ

Answer: Eggplant, tomatoes and peppers are all in the same family and do not require cross pollination to get fruit. So one eggplant is fine to grow and you should get lots of eggplants for that parmigiana!
