Your agave is dying. It's the natural lifecycle of the plant. It grows for years and then matures, sending out a flower stalk as kind of a swan song. You can replant the babies and have new agave plants, but you can't revive the parent plant. Dig and remove it from the garden, then plant one or more of the babies.
