It is easier to prevent crabgrass from growing than to kill it once it sprouts. The best defense is a pre emergent herbicide applied to the turf in February. Pre emergence products stop the weed seeds from sprouting. You can use a turf builder to help your yard green up. It probably won't eliminate the crabgrass already there but it will stop additional crabgrass from emerging. Try Scott's Bonus S for Southern grasses or Vigoro Ultra Turf. Be sure to check the label to make sure the product is safe to use on whatever type of turggrass you are growing. Putting your lawn on a regular watering, feeding and mowing schedule will help it grow lush and thick and help it crowd out most weeds so start this spring to get your lawn into the best shape possible and you will have fewer weeds to deal with next spring. Best wishes with your lawn~
