I need the name of a smallish apple tree to cross-pollinate my early harvest apple trees. I live in zone 4, at 7400'. |
The people to advise you best are the folks at St. Lawrence Nurseries in Potsdam, NY (www.sln.postdam.ny.us; ph# 315/265-6739). They specialize in growing very hardy fruit trees, and their preferred hardy rootstock, 'Antonovka', while not a dwarfing rootstock, should allow the scion to grow to 10-12' at maturity. They don't offer dwarf varieties because dwarf rootstocks aren't reliably hardy. Give them a call/virtual visit, and get a tip from the experts. Good luck and happy apples! |
