I live in Michigan (zone 5) and we are planning on putting in a chain link fence for our yard. The ground where I live for the majority of the year is fairly moist, though in spots we have sand. I would like to make the fence a little more private as well as attractive, but I'm not sure which vine would work the best. We are surrounded by trees, but the area of the fence will not be entirely shade

Try Trumpet Creeper, Japanese Honeysuckle, Star Jasmine or Evergreen Wisteria (Millettia reticulata). You may even find more choices in your local garden center. Or, you can plant annual vines - scarlet runner beans, sweet peas, etc. Enjoy your garden!
