| This has to be the hardiest plant I've ever had.It is planted in a large pot but starts growing in my garage too soon and grows to the size of a cornstalk. Should I divide it into separate pots and what do I do when it droops to the ground?The blooms are magnificent but I'm totally lost as to their care. |
| Lily bulbs start growing when the temperature is just right so I suspect that your garage is too warm which is causing growth too soon for you to set the plants outdoors. Next winter, store you bulbs in the garage but then move them to a cool dark place indoors (unheated basement or even in your refrigerator) until you can plant them outdoors. If you're trying to grow them in containers, use very deep containers - at least 5 gallon - they must develop large root masses in order to support the 5-6' tall flowering stalk. Without adequate roots, the stalk will be stunted or will droop. Plant the bulbs in well draining soil, in full sunshine. Good luck with your lilies. |
