The Q&A Archives: Best Cucumbers for Pickling

Question: I promised to grow cucumbers for a friend who loves to make (kosher dill) pickles. Is there a particular kind I should grow? Do you recommend and/or sell a variety of monarda that will thrive in a Texas hummingbird garden? Thanks. This siteis great! K. Beneke Austin, TX

Answer: The best cucumbers for pickling are the "pickling" types such as 'Pickalot', 'Picklebush' and 'Burpee Pickler' Monardas are all great hummingbird plants and hardy in your area. Try 'Gardenview Scarlet' and 'Jacob Kline' as two mildew resistant varieties.
