| Your plant is probably Magnolia stellata 'Jane Plat', and will grow about 8' feet tall and 8' feet wide at maturity, with crinkled foliage. Choose a sunny site and dig a hole about twice the size of the root mass. Then place your plant in the hole and fill with soil, making sure it's at the same level as it was when growing in the pot. Tamp the soil down around the roots and then water well to exclude any air pockets in the root area. Be sure to give your magnolia plenty of water this summer. Magnolias look best when given ample water during the growing season. Stellata, or Star Magnolias, are slow growing and attractive, so give yours a special place in the landscape. |
