We have st augustine lawn (jacksonville,fl)that the few freezes we had this winter killed several large areas to the lawn.If an area of grass is dead should we moisten the area and then put new sod directly on top of the dead grass? with the water restrictions how would we water every day in the beginning? Before this year our lawn was always absolutely beautiful.

It is best to dig out the dead spots and then sprinkle some compost over the soil before setting your new sod. Since sod already has established roots, you will only need to water deeply once each week to help the sod take root in the new soil.
