The Q&A Archives: Growing Strawberries

Question: Will alpine strawberries do well in North Texas (FT. Worth)? I have sandy loam soil on an organic program and plenty of ground (10 acres(.

Answer: Alpine strawberries will grow in Texas but they won't produce well in the heat. As everyone knows, there are hundreds of varieties out there, but only a few perform admirably for the home gardener?namely Chandler, Sequoia and Douglas. I'd stick with those for best harvest.
