DO FERNS COME BACK EVERY YEAR. I HAVE 2 FERNS THAT WERE GIVEN TO ME, I DON'T KNOW WHAT TYPE THEY ARE SO I PLANTED THEM IN PLANTERS .THE LEAVES AREN'T THE PRICKLY TYPE, THEIR SMOOTH TO TOUCH

Wish I knew for certain but there are some ferns that are perennial and cold hardy and others that are not. You'll just have to wait to see if the roots survived over the winter months. If so, you should see new fronds appear by the first week of May. Hope yours survived!
