| My flower beds and boxes are plagued with cat scat! Will this adversly effect my soil and plant growth? Sometimes it seems to! How do I and what do I do to get them to stop using these areas? (Of course, without harming them!) |
| Nothing worse than plunging your hand into the soil and coming up with a stinky clod! To discourage cats from using your garden as a litter box, put a barrier over the soil, like crumpled chicken wire. Cats don't like to walk on something that gives way - they're afraid they'll their legs caught. Place the wire over the bed and then cut holes for planting. As your plants mature the leaves will hide the wire. Or, hammer stakes around the perimeter of the bed and string nylon fishing line from stake to stake, crisscrossing the bed so that there's less than 12 inches of space between the line. Keep the line about 6 inches above the soil. You'll be able to step into the bed to work, but a cat won't be comfortable walking (or squatting) between the lines. |
