Coffee grinds do contain some nutrients and so can be useful to plants. They are a source of nitrogen for your plants. You could certainly compost them, or you could use them in small quantities scattered among the plants in the garden. Used in that manner they will still eventually break down and help feed the soil. The bottom line is that they will provide some nitrogen and are an organic amendment so you can use them on an annual basis without harm.
