The Q&A Archives: Tree, Large, Type unknown

Question: Branch tips, hundreds, have a growth that resembling dog feces.1-2 inch dia. 4-6 inchs long. With the branch tip through center. Some of them fall in lawn by the dozens, look bad.
what are they, and how do I get rid of them?

Answer: Sounds like an insect problem but I'm not sure which and without knowing what kind of tree, I can't even guess what it might be. Why not take one of the affected branch parts (in a plastic baggie!) to your local garden center or cooperative extension office for diagnosis? Helpful staff there can identify the problem and suggest control rememdies.
