The foliage remaining on the artichoke plants after the fall season should be cut back to the soil level. New leaves will sprout from the crown of the plant in the springtime. When you clean your garden of old plant debris in the fall months, there will be fewer hiding places for insects and disease pathogens, and your garden will be healthier the following spring and summer.
