We planted a broom plant last spring - it was beautiful - lots of new shoots it was a vibrant green all winter - now it's brown. i checked and the stems are not dry - they bend not break. i know it's to bloom in the spring but i don't know if it's ok - we live in pennsylvania - is there something wrong with it? thanks

That doesn't sound good, does it? Scotch broom is evergreen in mild winter areas but deciduous in cold winter areas such as yours. It should leaf out within the next 2-3 weeks. If it doesn't, prune it back to encourage new growth. If nothing sprouts by the end of May, the plant may be dead. Let's hope for the best!
