We are seeing holes in straight lines all the way around the tree trunk...about 4-6' up. One tree looks like it's dead, as the leaves are all dead, but haven't fallen off while all othe trees with leaves...the leaves have fallen off, the tree lookes dead near the bottom, but has new buds forming mostly towards the top of the tree. I found some of the same holes in a fir tree, heard it ws beetles |
Beetles are not neat enough to make straight lines of holes - beetle holes are random, all over the trunk. The damage you are seeing is from woodpeckers. You can try to scare them away with water from the hose but they usually stay too high up in a tree for that tactic to be too effective. There's not much you can do to discourage this kind of activity from birds. Sorry! |
