We have rhododendrons that are 20 plus years old, all the barks have turned black in addition to some leaves, they look like they will bloom. Are they diseased and is there anything we can do?

I can't tell without looking at your plant whether or not it is diseased so my best advice is to take a sample of the affected leaves to your local cooperative extension office, Master Gardener Plant Clinic or well staffed nursery to have a professional diagnosis of the problem along with control options. Hope it isn't anything serious!
