The Q&A Archives: Siberian Iris in Central Florida

Question: I would like to use Siberian Irises for my wedding on April 26. I live in Florida (central). I was going to order plants (as opposed to trying to find a florist to order them), but would like to know if it's feasible for my area and if they will be in bloom for the wedding. Melissa Cordell Cape Canaveral, FL

Answer: You live in zone 9 and I'm sorry to report that it's too warm for Siberian Iris in zone 9. They need a period of cold and it doesn't get cold enough to satisfy that requirement. You may want to try other iris such as Louisiana iris which are more adapted to your conditions.
