I want to plant fruits and vegetables, how can I tell if the soil thats there is healthy enough?

Before planting anything I would remove all exisiting vegetation and then rototill the area up. Spread 4-5 inches of organic matter such as compost or aged manure over the bed and dig or till it in to a depth of 8-10 inches. Then plant your fruits and veggies. They should thrive. Hope so!
