Spread 4-5 inches of compost or aged manure over your garden bed, dig it in to a depth of 8-10 inches, level the soil and plant your veggies. I'm sorry to hear your pumpkins and gourds are dying but these plants are really difficult to grow in pots and transplant so you might want to plant the seeds directly outdoors. The roots of these plants are really sensitive to being constrained and they can't grow deep enough in regular nursery pots. So, instead of trying to set out transplants, just sow your seeds directly in the garden. Best wishes with your garden!
