I'd like to know how to keep my two dogs from digging up my perennial bed and lawn. They seem to dig in the same areas but I cannot find what they are looking for, (ants, etc.) What can I do to stop this? |
Unfortunately, some dogs just like to dig and select habitual digging spots for no apparent reason. If you have a lot of time to work with the dogs you might be able to train them only to dig in spots acceptable to you. However, to really protect your perennial beds, I think the most effective solution would be to erect a physical barrier to keep the dogs out. You might do this be putting all of the beds in one area of the yard which is "off limits" to the dogs, or by fencing the individual beds. Protecting the lawn is nearly impossible unless you contain the dogs to a fenced in "run" or other limited area. |
