Question: fruitless, colorful and as low maintenence dwarf tree needed. Nothing above 10 ft. There is rocky soil as well, because of living in Vermont. Also a bird freindly tree would be a plus. Live across the way from a bird sanctuary.

Answer: Try dwarf cultivars of Japanese maple (Acer palmatum), Serviceberry (Amelanchier spp.), Eastern redbud (Cercis canadensis 'Forest Pansy', 'Silver Cloud', 'Texas White'), Falsecypress (Chamaecyparis spp.) or Southern magnolia 'Winter Gem'. Hollies provide winter berries so you might find a dwarf cultivar in your local garden center. Best wishes with your new trees.
