The Q&A Archives: Dogwood tree

Question: I planted 2 dogwoods about 2 months ago. They leafed out well, now the leaves are turning brown at the tips and shriveling up. Could it be the freeze we had a couple of weeks ago, or another problem?

Answer: Could be freeze damage or it could indicate overwatering. If just the outer leaves are affected, it's freeze damage. If the innermost leaves are also affected, you may be overwatering. Watch as new leaves develop. If they have the same symptoms, you are overwatering. If the leaves remain healthy, the browning was due to frost. Good luck with your dogwood!
