| If your sod has brown areas it may not have rooted well. Try prying some of the brown areas up. If they are easy to roll up, the sod did not root well and you can repair it by scratching up the soil with a trowel and then relaying the sod and stomping down on it so it makes good contact with the ground. You can overseed your lawn in either spring or fall with fescue or perennial rye. Just broadcast the seeds and water the lawn well so the seeds work their way down towards the soil. They should sprout in 7-14 days and help thicken your lawn. Turfgrass needs about an inch of water per week, applied slowly so it penetrates the soil deeply and encourages deep root growth. Water twice a week in the spring and every other day in the hottest summer months. You can feed your lawn in April, June, September and late November and be sure to mow as often as necessary to keep it from growing too tall - you don't want to scalp it when you mow.
